Imagination and Vaccination
With all that is going on in our world regarding the COVID-19 virus and vaccines, I’m devoting this article to offering suggestions and information. I hope you find it useful and comforting as well as a contribution to your inner and outer peace.
When our imagination goes overboard
We have all had the experience of our imagination “turning a mole hill into mountain.” It is important to know how to rein in our imagination, stay close to the facts and make practical decisions.
Our imagination is a gift and a curse
When led by altruism and responsibility, our imagination helps us move out of limitations and into expansion. When it is led by fear, our imagination goes towards nightmarish scenarios disconnected from reality. That triggers a response in our brain – primarily the amygdala – that can make us highly suggestible. We lose part of our practical and rational sense and can get caught up in conspiracy theories promoted by individuals who love attention and thrive on controversy. Unfortunately, many people have gotten caught in this dysfunctional cycle when it comes to the COVID 19 vaccines.
What are the facts regarding COVID 19?
Whatever we think about our own vulnerability, we know that COVID has infected millions of people world-wide and that in the US alone it has killed hundreds of thousands. We may disagree on the exact number or the actual percentages of how many have died. We do know that it is particularly dangerous for older people and those with certain pre-existing conditions. We also know that it has impacted certain populations more than others based on income, medical access, etc. It has also created major stress on the medical system and the economy. Covid 19 is transmissible by individuals who may not even know that they are carriers. While there are things we can do to protect ourselves, no one is completely safe. Time is of the essence!
What we know and don’t know about the vaccine
Vaccines have been administered to millions of people with an extremely low level of serious side effects. Research shows that vaccines are very effective even though we may not yet have all the data about the degree and length of immunity to Covid. We know that vaccines provide a very significant level of protection.
The notion of a genetically engineered vaccine has triggered much paranoia. In fact, the vaccine is using the same mechanism as the virus itself to stimulate antibodies, so any long-term genetic risk of the vaccine would be equally applicable to the virus itself. The issue is not about whether the vaccine is totally free of risk. The decision whether to get the vaccine needs to be based on a risk/benefit assessment.
Let me share my favorite analogy
The risk of COVID for many of us is like walking in the middle of a busy street. People with the virus are like invisible vehicles that could hit us any time. Danger is high and we are vulnerable, with some of us at greater risk than others.
Getting the vaccine is like waking on a sidewalk. While you may still be involved in an accident, the risks are minimal and for the most part not life-threatening. It is even better than that because each person on the sidewalk decreases the number of virus carriers in the middle of the street. It not only benefits you, but also other people who have not yet been vaccinated. Please be reasonable and responsible to yourself and others and do not get caught up in the imaginings running amuck among the anti-vax promoters. While there may be extremely rare reactions needing medical attention, for most people the effects are mild and short-lived.
What you can do to alleviate the discomfort caused by the vaccine shots
We recommend three products to mitigate the symptoms of discomfort:
- Holy Basil: This is an amazing ayurvedic herb that marvelously balances both body and mind. I suggest 2 capsules of 500mg twice daily for 3 days after your first and second dose of the vaccine.
- Gelsemium Sempervirens 30 C: This is a great homeopathic remedy to deal with flu like symptom of aches, pain and chills. Suggested dose is 3 pellets every two hours for as log as those symptoms persist
- Thuja Occidentalis 30 C: This remedy boosts the immune system and helps with any bronchial symptoms as well as flushing the toxins out of the body. I recommend 3 pellets every two to three hours for the first two days after the first and second dose of the vaccine.
These products are available at your local Health Food store.
